Welcome to the Family Cancer Genetics Network
(FCGN), a network of centers providing cancer genetics services.
We anticipate many new and promising discoveries about inherited
cancer susceptibility, or cancer that "runs in families" over the
next few years. Our main goal is to provide the most comprehensive information about
cancer genetics and new research studies to individuals and families
affected by hereditary cancer.
The FCGN
is creating a list, or registry, of people who may be willing to
take part in cancer genetic research studies. Agreeing to become
a member of the registry gives you the opportunity to learn about
these new studies and, if you are interested and eligible, to choose
to be in one. It does not mean that you have to take part in future
research studies. If you have a personal or family history of cancer,
we invite you to participate in the FCGN
registry . Participants will be kept informed of the
most current news and research in hereditary cancer. Examples of
FCGN research studies include studies to identify the causes of
cancer in families, and studies to develop methods for early detection
and prevention of cancer. Information provided to the FCGN is kept
in strict confidence to the extent provided by law and protected
by the latest safeguards. To find out more about participating in
the FCGN, please visit how to participate.
Information about specific types of genetic testing for inherited
cancer is found in the section Learn More.
We hope you
will be willing to participate with us in the fight against cancer.
If you have any questions, please email
or call us at (800) 456-3434, ext. 4990 for the center nearest you,
and we will be happy to share any information about the FCGN.
Sincerely,
Rebecca Sutphen, M.D.
